2002 (Ski Club) Pumpkineering Expedition

It all began with a truckload or two of pumpkins. We bought about 100 large pumpkins, the day after Halloween, and carved about 60. (Thanks especially to those members who helped carve, but for one reason or another couldn't help with the installation on campus.) The logistics of transport turned out okay, as we had a few vehicles and plenty of people.

It was a long night - we arrived at campus shortly after midnight, at left at about 4am. Mostly we worked in small groups, carting pumpkins around campus and installing them. Some placements involved some serious climbing, but others (right) were at ground level. Interestingly, some of these easier placements last quite a while, and I managed to get photos of the bears with their pumpkins the next morning.

Sather Gate is a traditional target on campus, and this time we hit it hard :-) We had plenty of huge pumpkins this year, and the biggest was saved for the centre of Sather Gate.

Incredibly, the Sather Gate pumpkins stayed up for several days, resulting in some great exposure! I'm sure thousands of people saw these pumpkins.

One of the great triumphs of this year's pumpkineering was the Lincoln statue, at the back of the Campanile. A few of us tried it in 2001, but found it too hard.

I also got some good shots of the Campanile the next day
